Phillips Retires from Kaw Valley

After 28 years, Senior Vice President Ed Phillips has announced his retirement from the Kaw Valley State Bank.  “I have been battling some health challenges lately, and it just seemed like a good time to relax and enjoy my family,” Phillips stated.

Most of his career at the bank was spent managing the home loan department.  When Phillips started, the bank only made a few long-term, fixed interest rate loans.  Under his leadership, the mortgage department grew to be the premier home lender in Pottawatomie and Wabaunsee County, having made 277 loans for a total of $25,675,000 in just one year.  Many people benefited from Phillips’ ability to find favorable markets and help borrowers qualify for the best loan program available – whether it was FHA, VA, Rural Development/102 % financing, or conventional financing.

Phillips reports that he is looking forward to spending more time with his wife, Mary Alice, and their children.  “I started out as a Vocational Agricultural teacher, so maybe I can dust off that hat and help with the home-schooling of the children,” Phillips said.
